How this notice period calculator works

This calculator estimates your last day of employment based on the date you give notice and the notice period stated in your employment contract. It is useful when your contract says 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month or 2 months notice.

1. Enter notice date

Select the date you submit your resignation letter or give written resignation notice.

2. Enter notice period

Use the notice period stated in your employment contract, such as 7 days or 1 month.

3. Check last day

The calculator estimates your final employment date by counting calendar days.

Singapore notice period rules

In Singapore, the notice period is usually based on the employment contract. The notice period should generally be the same for employer and employee. If a party does not serve the required notice, salary in lieu of notice may be payable.

Situation General treatment Practical meaning
Contract states notice period Follow the employment contract Example: 1 month notice, 2 weeks notice or 7 days notice.
No notice period in contract Use statutory notice period based on service length The longer the service period, the longer the default notice period may be.
Cannot serve full notice Salary in lieu of notice may be payable The party ending employment early may need to pay for the unserved notice.
Notice waived Can be waived by mutual consent Both employer and employee should record the waiver in writing.

If your contract has no notice period

If your employment contract does not specify a notice period, the default notice period depends on your length of service.

Length of service Default notice period Calculator input
Less than 26 weeks 1 day Choose “Less than 26 weeks” or enter 1 day.
26 weeks to less than 2 years 1 week Choose “26 weeks to less than 2 years” or enter 1 week.
2 years to less than 5 years 2 weeks Choose “2 years to less than 5 years” or enter 2 weeks.
5 years or more 4 weeks Choose “5 years or more” or enter 4 weeks.
If your written contract has a valid notice period, your contract notice period usually comes first. Use the service length option only when your contract does not state any notice period.

Does notice period include weekends and public holidays?

Yes. Notice period generally includes the day on which notice is given, public holidays, rest days and non-working days. This is why notice period is normally counted by calendar dates, not only working days.

Notice starts today

If you give notice today, today is normally included as part of the notice period.

Weekends included

Saturdays, Sundays, rest days and non-working days are generally counted.

Public holidays included

Public holidays during the notice period generally do not extend your last day.

Notice period examples

These examples show how the calculator treats common resignation notice periods.

Notice given date Notice period Estimated last day Explanation
15 July 2026 1 month 14 August 2026 One month notice includes the day notice is given.
1 March 2026 2 weeks 14 March 2026 Two weeks is counted as 14 calendar days including the notice date.
10 June 2026 7 days 16 June 2026 Seven days notice means the notice date is counted as day 1.
31 January 2026 1 month 28 February 2026 Month-end dates may roll to the last valid day of the following month.

Salary in lieu of notice

Salary in lieu of notice means paying the other party for the notice period that is not served. This may apply when an employee resigns without serving full notice or when an employer asks an employee to leave before the notice period ends.

Employee does not serve notice

If you resign immediately, you may need to pay salary in lieu to your employer.

Employer ends employment early

If the employer ends employment early, salary in lieu may be payable to the employee.

Mutual waiver

Notice can be waived if both parties agree. It is safer to record this in writing.

Simple estimate used in this calculator: monthly salary ÷ 26 × unserved notice days. This is only a planning estimate. Actual payroll treatment can depend on contract wording, salary type and specific circumstances.

Annual leave, sick leave and notice period

Leave during notice period can be confusing. The treatment may differ depending on whether you are taking annual leave, offsetting notice, taking sick leave or applying for unpaid leave.

Situation General treatment Important note
Approved annual leave during notice Usually part of notice period You remain employed until the last day unless notice is offset.
Annual leave used to offset notice Can bring forward last day if employer agrees This is different from simply taking leave during notice.
Sick leave during notice Generally treated as part of notice period if valid Valid sick leave usually does not extend the notice period.
Unpaid leave during notice May require employer agreement Unpaid leave approval is usually at employer discretion.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my notice period in Singapore?

Does notice period include weekends in Singapore?

Yes. Notice period generally includes rest days and non-working days, so weekends are normally counted unless your specific contract or situation provides otherwise.

Does notice period include public holidays?

What if my contract does not mention notice period?

If your employment contract does not specify a notice period, the default notice period depends on length of service: less than 26 weeks is 1 day, 26 weeks to less than 2 years is 1 week, 2 years to less than 5 years is 2 weeks, and 5 years or more is 4 weeks.

What is salary in lieu of notice?

Salary in lieu of notice is money equivalent to the salary that would have been earned during the required notice period that was not served.
